As of January 17 in Japan, at the end of 31 days, the Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- anime film has sold over 1.55 million tickets for over 2.5 billion yen (about 16.5 million US dollars). It is now ranked #7 in its fifth weekend of showing at the Japanese box office. It is a re-edited version of the episodes from the much-anticipated Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (pronounced as “g-quax”) television series.
Now, the film has crossed the present total all-time earnings in Japan by the 1982 Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space anime film, which gained 2.3 billion yen (approx. 14.88 million United States dollars in current conversion) at Japanese box offices.
At present, the Gundam GQuuuuuuX film is the second highest earner in the Gundam franchise in Japan, after Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM, which set the record with a total of 4,796,455,740 yen (approximately 31.05 million United States dollars) at the end of its domestic run in May 2024. That amount will increase to a total of at least 5.38 billion yen (about 35.5 million dollars) if we take into account the special edition screenings of Gundam Seed FREEDOM later in 2024.
