On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Shinichiro Watanabe and MAPPA Studios’ Lazarus anime revealed the official date for release – it will premiere on Sunday, April 6, 2025, on Adult Swim’s Toonami block. The episode will be aired at 12 am on Sunday, April 6, 2025, Eastern Daylight Time, followed by streaming on the Max service the next day.
The Lazarus anime will also be telecast in Japan sometime in April on TV Tokyo, although the precise date and time of airing have yet to be confirmed at the time of writing this. Assuming they keep to the standard, the approximation is that the show will air in Japan very close, whatever that would mean, to the time that it will be airing on Adult Swim’s Toonami block within a few days of the Sunday, April 6 date.

The trailer release gave the appropriate release date information regarding Shinichiro Watanabe and MAPPA Studios’ Lazarus anime series. Putting an end to the speculation about the series’ overarching narrative, it also showcases its English dub cast and their performances. So far, the notable names confirmed as part of the English cast include:

Shinichiro Watanabe is directing the series overall, and it is also confirmed by Adult Swim that senior vice president of anime Jason DeMarco will direct every individual episode.

Following that, Chad Stahelski will design the action sequences for the series. A score will be composed by jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, the musicians, producers, and DJs Floating Points and Bonobo. Sola Entertainment produces it, with Akemi Hayashi as character designer, Stanislas Brunet as concept designer, and Mihi Suigura as art director. Adult Swim describes the Lazarus anime story like this:
“The year is 2052 – an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity prevails across the globe. The reason for this: mankind has been freed from sickness and pain. Nobel Prize winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug with no apparent drawbacks called Hapuna. Hapuna soon becomes ubiquitous… and essential. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes.
Three years later, the world has moved on. But Dr. Skinner has returned – this time, as a harbinger of doom. Skinner announces that Hapuna has a short half-life. Everyone who has taken it will die approximately three years later. Death is coming for this sinful world – and coming soon.
