This day, WITCH WATCH dropped an all-new trailer that showcased most of the characters in the series and a preview of the opening theme song “Watch Me!” by the J-POP unit YOASOBI. To celebrate the opening theme song written for this series, Mainichi Broadcasting System, Inc. (MBS) put out completely new poster art for it. The trailer was released in advance of the global theatrical premiere on March 16 with the first three episodes of the series, releasing in North America via GKIDS, under the title WITCH WATCH: WATCH PARTY. Eight new cast members were already announced previously.
This series is animated by Bibury Animation Studios (The Quintessential Quintuplets). Hiroshi Ikehata directed it (FLCL Progressive), while Haruko Iizuka (Horimiya) designed the characters, and Yukari Hashimoto (A Sign of Affection) composed the music. Below is the trailer:
The anime WITCH WATCH is adapting the manga of the same name by manga artist Kenta Shinohara (SKET DANCE); it is a magical-romantic-comedy with teenage witch Nico whose familiar, Morihito is doing family duty by living with her under one roof while using his strength inherited from being an ogre to fulfill the duty of protection.
Nico couldn’t be happier to live under the same roof as Morihito, the boy she has a crush on. On the other hand, Morihito takes his responsibility quite seriously and seems less likely to be distracted by a potential romance; this mix of personalities and mash-up of magical mishaps does make this romantic comedy an enjoyable one. The original WITCH WATCH manga can be found serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump with a total circulation already exceeding 3 million copies.

Response from YOASOBI on their new song: “We are YOASOBI. We are honored to provide the opening theme ‘Watch me!’ for this show. I, Ayase, love WITCH WATCH, of course. I’ve been a fan of Kenta Shinohara-Sensei’s works since ‘SKET DANCE, so I was very honored to be a part of this project. The song, ‘Watch me!’, that I wrote for this series is focused on the pure romantic feelings that the main character, Nico, has for her childhood friend, Morihito. I love Nico-chan as a character and how she falls in love with Morihito, and I think that the song expresses the cuteness of Nico.”
